If you have been following me and my blog for some time now, you know that I have created a hobby into a business by selling name brand trendy women’s & men’s clothing online with Poshmark.
Many you have left me wonderful compliments on how great I am doing and want to know my secrets. And while, I do not have any secrets to share, besides hard work, and persistence, I thought it would be fun to take you along with me on what I do in a day and show you my process on how I list on Poshmark!
Long story short, I have been a buyer since 2014 but, only recently a (part time) seller on Poshmark since August 2017! Within this short time I have sold $5,256 by finding thrift store treasures and flipping it into a secondary income. I hope that taking a peek into my progress will encourage you that a side hustle is always a possible means of having fun and of course, earning the extra cash you need!
Before we get started you’re going to need sign up for Poshmark. If you haven’t already, you can use my code “THREADLIFT” for a $5 code.
Source Quality Items:
Sounds simple enough right? Wrong! Knowing what brands to source is probably the hardest part about this process, and for good reason. Half of being able to earn money for the items you want to sell is also knowing the demand of your market. Are you selling women’s clothing? What are some popular brands that women are buying right now? What trends are in? What season is it? There are many variables to understand but here are some of my favorite Poshmark resellers that I have learned alot from in my journey! Their Youtube channels have helped me learn what to buy and what to price it for in my early reselling days.
Prep, Steam, Stage:
After sourcing the items I want to sell within my closet, it’s time to make them look presentable. Think about how you feel when you shop online; what are you most attracted to? If you could compare a wrinkle free top that was nicely displayed on a mannequin vs. the same top, full of wrinkles and draped on the side of someone’s bed, which one would you be more interested in? Right- so keeping that in mind; remember what goes through a customer’s mind when they step into your closet. Take a look at how I stage my closet by visiting my Poshmark Closet. Often times I opt for a bright or warm tone flat lay for my cover shot while including diverse ways of listing by showing the item displayed in a multitude of ways.
Photograph your Items:
Probably the next and most important step in this process is creating your image! While you do not need the most expensive camera, lighting kits or editing tools, consideration of how your photography is still very important. My favorite time to take photos is in natural light,which is typically found to be the best in the middle of the day around 1-3 PM. Considering that it is currently winter, timing will be everything with the shortened days and longer nights. If you own a smartphone, you have a special advantage of using editing tools for your photos. Most smartphones come with the ability to apply a default filter and adjust the lighting, exposure, contrast, etc. allowing you to make the best of your photo without too much effort!
Tip: If you are using your phone, take your pictures in square mode…I made this mistake and some of my images are cut off because I shot in vertical originally (ugh).
Upload to Poshmark:
My favorite step! Now that you have your item photographed, its time to upload it to the Poshmark platform. Poshmark allows you to upload 8 photos to showcase your items, so more is better! When choosing what photos to upload, I make sure to get a picture of the front of the item, back, close up of the brand label and size, garment care tag, length and width (tops) and waist measurements/ inseam measurement (pants).
After uploading your photos, next is to describe, describe, describe! Be as descriptive as possible in your listings. Are there any flaws? Make sure you also describe those for transparency to avoid confusion for your buyer in order to make a quicker sale!
Share, Share, SHARE:
I seriously cannot stress this enough. The purpose of Poshmark is to SHARE your closet with the community. After you have uploaded your image, you must be sure to continuously share that item to the news feed to give it exposure. The more consistent you do this, the greater the chances your items will sell —and fast! What’s better, is that other Poshers will share you items for you to their followers which will give you even MORE exposure. When someone does this for you, always return the favor and then pay it forward to someone else’s closet! Before you know it, you’ve already made your first sale!
I hope these tips encouraged you to start your own Poshmark closet! With the new year starting fresh, you have the best opportunity right now to clean out your closet and get your feet wet in the reselling side of fashion!
